Alleged attempted murder: Trial date setTell North Platte what you think

In Lincoln County District Court Monday, an Aug. 28 trial date was set for Justin Vieyra, 37, who is charged with attempted first-degree murder in the stabbing of a man who was seeing his former girlfriend.

Vieyra is also charged with use of a weapon to commit a felony, false imprisonment and third-degree domestic assault.

He was arrested April 2, following a Sunday afternoon altercation with his former girlfriend and her current boyfriend.

The woman reportedly agreed to meet Vieyra at his home to talk about their prior problems, police said.

She and Vieyra got into an argument. She told police Vieyra locked the front door and refused to let her leave. Police also believe he threw a chair and hit her with it.

The woman said she tried to lock herself in the bathroom, but Vieyra pinned the door open and choked her, cutting off her breathing, according to the police report.

Earlier, the woman texted her current boyfriend and “indicated the situation wasn’t going well,” Police Spokesman John Deal said.

Her boyfriend went to the house and said he heard the woman screaming as he neared the front door. He told police he kicked at the front door, and his foot went through the lower half of the door.

The door was made of thin wood, which broke when the man kicked it, and Vieyra attacked him. The woman said Vieyra had told her if her boyfriend showed up, he was going to kill him. The woman said Vieyra got a large kitchen knife, ran to the front door and repeatedly stabbed at her boyfriend through the hole in the door.

Meanwhile, she got out the back door. Her boyfriend backed away from the front door and officers arrived a short time later, police said.

The current boyfriend had several large cuts on his arms that required numerous sutures, police said.

In court Monday, Lindemeier said he is working with the county attorney to resolve the case, but needs a little more time to have a chance at a pre-trial settlement.

Birch said “If you work something out, Mr. Lindemeier, get ahold of us and we will certainly schedule it earlier.”
