Baseball, softball teams raise money for TeammatesTell North Platte what you think

The North Platte Legion Baseball and the North Platte Bandits softball teams played two slow-pitch softball games on Monday at Bill Wood Field in a fundraiser for the Teammates mentoring program.

About $3,000 was raised at the event, said Molly Morales, the Teammates coordinator for the North Platte chapter.

The first game had the North Platte First National Bank Juniors playing the 16-and-under Bandits, with the Juniors winning 12-0.

The second game between the 18-and-under Bandits and the North Platte Seniors was closer with the First Nationals winning 10-5.

There were five celebrity umpires for the games in Mayor Dwight Livingston, NebraskaLand Days coordinator David Fudge, KNOP-TV sports anchor Chelsea Croft, North Platte High School wrestling coach Dale Hall and NPHS teacher and assistant boys' basketball coach Jimmie Pack.

There was also a home run derby after each game. No one was able to hit one out of the park but Bandits players Kylie Engleman and Jamie Fuqua came close.
