Jake Jones and Morgan Lashley won the age 16-and-up boys’ and girls’ titles at the Junior Ambassador Golf Classic on Tuesday.

Jones, who graduated from North Platte St. Pat’s in May, beat Chesney Tatman by one stroke, 148-149 in the two-day tournament.

In the first day of competition on Monday at the Lake Maloney course, Jones shot 70 while Tatman was one stroke behind. In the second day at River’s Edge Golf Club, Jones and Tatman both had a score of 78.

Connor Dormann was third behind Jones and Tatman with a two-day score of 156.

In the girls’ 16-and-up competition, Lashley, a North Platte High School recruit and a Boise State recruit, blew away the field with a two-day score of 159.

On the first day, Lashley had a score of 79 and she led eventual second place finisher Kira Mestl by nine strokes. On the second day, Lashley had a score of 80 and she won by 17 strokes.

The third place finisher for the girls was Abigail Cornelius with a score of 179.

There were eight age divisions for the Junior Ambassador. The boys’ 14-15-year division was won by Jayden Jones with a score of 153. The girls’ 13-15 division was won by Baylee Steele at 162.

The boys’ 13-year-old division was won by Colbi Smith at 169 and Luke Hiltibrand won the boys’ 12-year-old division at 188.

The boys’ 11-and-under division went to Caleb Castillo, who had a score of 84 with nine holes played on each day. The girls’ 12-and-under division was won by MaKinley Mitchell at 107 with a total of 18 holes in the two days.

There was also the Slugfest, a three-hole scramble of teams randomly selected held at the Junior Ambassador. The Slugfest was won by the team of Kort Steele, Haley Jackson, Ali Boswell and Teegan Sonneman.

In all, about a hundred golfers competed in the Junior Ambassador.
