The “Nebraska150 Express” streamliner will arrive in North Platte around 4 p.m. Friday afternoon, Aug. 4.

The heritage, streamlined passenger cars and diesel locomotives will traverse the state for three days, departing from Omaha and stopping along the main railroad line in Columbus, Grand Island, Kearney, North Platte, Ogallala, Sidney and Gering.

North Platte will host a rally from 4-6:30 p.m. to welcome the train on Front St., near the monument of the North Platte Canteen of World War II.

Gov. Pete Ricketts and First Lady Susanne Shore will be aboard the train. Retired Astronaut Clayton Anderson is expected to be with them. If so, he will sign and sell copies of his popular books.

Union Pacific CEO Lance Fritz said UP's connection to Nebraska dates back to President Abraham Lincoln founding Union Pacific 155 years ago, when the Cornhusker State was a bustling territory.

UP’s first track was laid in Omaha, not far from where the NE150 Express will depart, Fritz said.

In the tradition of the Canteen spirit, Nebraskaland National Bank will serve free hamburgers and hot dogs and chips. The Chamber Hostesses will serve root beer floats, and the Chamber Ambassadors will have water.

KX104 radio will broadcast live from the event.

A photo booth will be available with 'Lil’ Spike' from the Golden Spike Tower.

Sponsors in North Platte include NebraskaLand National Bank, KX104, Golden Spike Tower, City of North Platte, North Platte Area Chamber of Commerce and North Platte Downtown Association.

The train will depart North Platte at 8 a.m. Saturday.
