A Garden Walk will be held at the Memorial Garden, located at the West Central Research and Extension Center, on Saturday, July 29, from 8-11 a.m.Questions about the landscape plants, their care and maintenance are welcome.
“Please come take a look at the beautiful shade trees and summer flowers,” Nebraska Forest Service Specialist Rachel Allison said.
The Memorial Garden began nearly 20 years ago. The garden beds have evolved over time from the landscape plan developed by the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum.
The trees were selected to expand the variability of species that can be planted in west central Nebraska -- in particular the hardy oaks, maples, elms and ornamental trees, but also shrubs, perennials and walkways to beautify the garden.
The garden is part of the Center’s Glenn Viehmeyer Arboretum -- an example of sustainable landscape design for the residents of surrounding communities.
The garden is located behind the Lincoln-Logan-McPherson Extension office at the intersection of West State Farm Road and U.S. Highway 83.
