After winning the Nebraska State Tournament, the North Platte 12U All-Stars has earned a bid to represent the state Aug. 2-10 at the Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken World Series at Ballparks of America in Branson, MO.The team swept through the state tournament in Gordon on July 15-16.
North Platte rolled over Gering in the opening game, 20-0, then shut out Alliance too, 15-0. The next game against Sidney was close, 6-5, but North Platte defeated Sidney again in the championship game, 10-0.
This will be North Platte's first team to represent the state at the 12U World Series, organizers said Tuesday in a Chamber of Commerce newsletter.
The team would compete against the top 18 teams in the country, in addition to teams from Japan, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, New Zealand, Korea, Canada, Mexico and Australia.

Boneless Wings will be sold for half price from 5-9 p.m. and 10% of all food sales will benefit expenses for uniforms, equipment, travel and other costs.
There will be unlimited lazer tag and bowling for $12.95, and domestic beers will be just $2 from 5-7 p.m., organizers said.
A raffle will be held for a Husker helmet or football signed by Heisman Trophy winners Eric Crouch, Johnny Rodgers and Mike Rozier.
