Cancelled: Wind farm public meeting Tell North Platte what you think

Although a public meeting was set for a proposed wind farm in southern Lincoln County, specific proposals failed to come forward so the meeting has been cancelled.

NCORPE (the Nebraska Cooperative Republican Platte Enhancement Project) originally set the meeting from 10 a.m.-noon on Wednesday, July 26 in North Platte to talk about a wind farm, “to provide comment and meeting with NCORPE staff to learn more about the prospective project,” NCORPE announced in early July.

Requests for specific proposals from wind and/or solar developers were requested in late June, but none were received by the July 14 deadline, NCORPE General Manager Kyle Shepherd said.

The planned public meeting could be re-set in the future, if developers become more interested, he said.

Two developers previously talked to the NCORPE board about building a wind farm on the property, Shepherd said, but did not make specific proposals. So, more definitive plans were requested.

Shepherd also said NCORPE's regular monthly meeting on Aug. 16 will be postponed, although he did not say why. The new date will be announced.

NCORPE owns approximately 20,000 acres of land.

Water from below the land is pumped into the Republican River. Also, pipe is being laid to pump the groundwater into the South Platte River.
