Juniors shutout McCookTell North Platte what you think

The North Platte First National Bank Juniors couldn't be stopped when they got going on Sunday against McCook and they picked up an 8-0 win at Bill Wood Field.

The game was scoreless for the first two and a half innings. But in the bottom of the third inning, Gus Kreber hit a two-out RBI double to left field on the payoff pitch from James Mockry to score the first run of the game.

In the next inning, Mockry was relieved by Jordan Chauncey but the First Nationals had started to find their groove. It became 2-0 on a sacrifice fly ball to shallow center by Carter Johnson and then the lead doubled when Ben Vyzourek hit a two-run single to right-center.

In the fifth, the Nationals scored two more. Sam Malsbury reached on an error by second baseman Joey Gonzales and then Johnson brought in another run by sacrificing himself.

North Platte also scored two more in the sixth to put the run rule into effect and end the game early.

Jalen Dickinson got the complete game victory on the mound for the First Nationals.

Sunday's outing with McCook was a scheduled doubleheader. But the second game was canceled in advance as thunderstorms were looming.
