The daughter of a former U.S. president, a pilot who recreated Amelia Earhart’s famous flight around the world, a special agent who helped take down drug lord Pablo Escobar and a four-time Iditarod champion headline the next season of North Platte’s Town Hall Lecture Series.

Officials announced the upcoming speakers on Tuesday -- Jenna Bush Hager, Amelia Rose Earhart, Steve Murphy and Dallas Seavey.

“The Town Hall Lecture Series is the only speaker series of its kind between Denver and Omaha,” publicity chairwoman Heather Johnson said. “Because of that, the THLS board takes the job of finding and recruiting top quality speakers very seriously.”

Over the years, the series has hosted actress Vicki Lawrence, country singer Naomi Judd, figure skater Scott Hamilton and Apollo 13 astronaut Fred Haise.

This year, the lecture series is celebrating its 35th anniversary, adding to the incentive to host a pretigious lineup.

“The goal is always to find presenters who are both relevant and entertaining to our audience,” said Johnson. “Not only does the 2017-18 lineup accomplish that goal, it exceeds it, and we couldn’t be more excited about that.”

A look at the schedule:

Jenna Bush Hager - “A Morning with Jenna Bush Hager”

Wednesday, Sept. 13

Jenna Bush Hager is the daughter of former U.S. President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush. A UNICEF volunteer, inner-city school teacher and “Today” show correspondent, Laura Bush Hager shows stories of everyday people doing terrific things, giving her ample experience seeing the best in human nature.

Her message of compassion for supporting those in need inspires audiences to positively affect their families, schools and communities.

Amelia Earhart - “Around The World with Amelia”

Wednesday, Oct. 11

Amelia Rose Earhart rose to fame after recreating the 1937 flight of her namesake.

Her 28,000-mile flight around the world in a single engine aircraft became a symbol of determination, courage and empowerment for anyone who has ever decided to seek new horizons.

Earhart has been named one of the “Top 10 Young Americans” by the U.S. Jaycees. Thousands of people have been impacted by her raw and charming style and her contagious enthusiasm for action.

Steve Murphy - “The True Story of Pablo Escobar”

Wednesday, April 4

As a special agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Stephen Murphy and his partner, Javier Pena, targeted the world’s first narco-terrorist, Pablo Escobar, and the Medellin Cartel.

Living and working alongside their Colombian National Police counterparts in Colombia, as well as with elite U.S. military units, the men’s efforts resulted in the dismantlement of the largest and most violent international drug trafficking organization of its time.

The Netflix series, “NARCOS,” is based on their activities.

Dallas Seavey - “An Iditarod Life”

Tuesday, May 8

Dallas Seavey is a third-generation dog musher and four-time Iditarod champion. He holds the record for having the three fastest winning times in Iditarod history and also won the 1,000-mile Yukon Quest -- one of only six people ever to hold a title in both of the world’s two longest sled dog races.
