Alan Jackson, who will perform in June in North Platte, will be inducted this year into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Country Music Association announced Wednesday.

Jackson joins icons Jerry Reed and Don Schlitz as the 2017 inductees.

He will perform Friday, June 23 during Nebraskaland Days, along with Dwight Yoakam, another award winning singer/songwriter.

Tickets are available at http://nebraskalanddays.com/buy-tickets/

“For me to say I’m honored sounds like the standard old response,” Jackson said Wednesday, “but for a man who loves country music, there is no higher honor. This is the mountain top.”

Jackson will be inducted in the “Modern Era” category and Reed in the “Veterans Era” category.  Schlitz will be inducted in the “Songwriter” category,

They bring the membership in the coveted Country Music Hall of Fame from 130 to 133 members.

Jackson, from rural Newnan, Ga., claims he is just a “singer of simple songs.” He has sold nearly 60 million albums worldwide and released more than 60 singles, registering 50 Top 10 hits.

Reed is a legendary songwriter, picker, singer and actor. His original hits include A Thing Called Love, Amos Moses, When You’re Hot, You’re Hot, East Bound and Down, and She Got the Gold Mine (I Got the Shaft.)

Schlitz wrote “The Gambler” for Kenny Rogers, as well as “Forever and Ever Amen,” for Randy Travis and “When You Say Nothing At All” for Keith Whitley.

The CMA created the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1961 to recognize noteworthy individuals for their outstanding contributions with country music’s highest honor.
