Bus rides around town will be discounted 50 cents next week, April 9-15, during the state’s Public Transit Week. All transit passengers will be given “We Love Public Transit” buttons throughout the week, and passengers who wear them will receive a 50-cent discount.
Gov. Pete Ricketts declared Public Transit Week to spread awareness of the service.
In the spirit of giving to the community, a bus parked in the public transit parking lot at 1520 N. Jeffers will be a drop-off site for pet supplies and pet food. The idea is to "Stuff the Bus."
Donations can also be given to any public transit bus driver. The donations will benefit the animals in shelters waiting for a forever home, public transit director Marilee Hyde said.
Also, a free lunch will be provided for bus drivers, families and friends from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday at the public transit building, 1520 No. Jeffers.
New security cameras for the busses will also be unveiled. The cameras will provide more safety for passengers and drivers, Hyde said.
Hyde urges the public to check out all that the public transit has to offer.
