Sutherland High School students Emily Kammerer and Madi McMillan won medals March 23 in the Nebraska State Speech competition at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

McMillan earned second place in entertainment and teamed up with Kammerer for the fourth-place duet.

The two qualified for state by placing in the top three in the district meet March 14 at North Platte High. Sutherland’s speech team was impressive at district, with 13 other members of the team qualifying in nine events.

Nicole Weiss is the team director.
