Tanner Hand earned a state title for Serious Prose in the Nebraska Speech competition.

Hand qualified for state in two events. He also competed in Humorous Prose, where he earned a fourth place medal Friday at the meet.

Hand is a senior at St. Patrick’s High. He is the first St. Pat’s state speech and drama champ since 1980, spokeswoman Jennifer Winder said.

He has appeared in Community Playhouse productions such as The Little Mermaid and Mary Poppins. He also earned a role last fall in the North Platte Community College production of No Exit, and he has appeared in summer Children's Theater productions.

Hand has been accepted to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles. Some of the school’s notable alumns are Danny DeVito, Paul Rudd and Robert Redford.

The St. Patrick’s Speech Coach is Mrs. Kim Boyer.
