Heartland Hellcats win home boutTell North Platte what you think

The Heartland Hellcats roller derby team defended their home turf on Saturday with a 195-157 win over the Wreckin' Roller Rebels from Denver in their bout at the D&N Events Center.

Hellcats president Megan Huddle, aka Hipcheck Holly, said it was a hard-fought win.

"It was a hard game, a struggle to the end," she said. "They were a super strong team."

Huddle won the MVP Jammer award for the bout, which she said felt good because she's usually more of a blocker -- one of the players who opens the track for jammers to score points.

"I was ecstatic," Huddle said. "I've been working really hard. I normally get them for blocking."

Huddle said the Hellcats enjoyed the support of their fans who came out for them.

"Our turnout was fantastic; we have the best fans," she said. "We are truly blessed to have them."
