A North Platte man was charged with burglary and theft Tuesday in rural Lincoln County as well as in the city.

Ryan Horan, 31, is in the Lincoln County jail, held without bond pending his apperance in court.

The sheriff’s office said burglaries were reported Saturday, March 11 from N. Eshelman Road, which parallels U.S. Highway 83 north of the city.

In one report, a man said he was missing a propane tank from his camper, and saw a similar looking tank hooked to a camper on his neighbor’s lot.

Deputies checked out the suspect tank Tuesday and contacted the owner of the lot where the camper was parked. The owner said nobody should be parked on the property.

The tank was removed and positively identified as the victim’s, the sheriff’s office said.

Just down the road from the camper, deputies found Ryan Horan, 31, riding a bicycle and wearing a backpack. Horan told them he was staying in the camper. His backpack was searched and “numerous items commonly used in burglaries” were found inside, the report said.

Horan is charged with trespassing, possession of burglary tools and theft. The North Platte Police have also charged Horan with a burglary within the city limits.

More charges may follow, the sheriff’s office said.

Police said a burglary was reported Feb. 25 at Ag Valley Coop at 402 E. Seventh, where Horan allegedly forced entry into a building and stole an air compressor valued at more than $500.

The investigating officer found footprints near the building and documented them, and during the investigation, learned that Horan sold the air compressor to another person. When that person was contacted, they said they didn’t know the compressor was stolen, but police recovered the compressor.

The investigation led them to the camper where Horan was staying. No one answered the door, but similar footprints were found around the camper, police spokesman John Deal said.
