Popular North Platte history program to be presented again Tell North Platte what you think

A March 2 library program about North Platte history was so successful it will be repeated at noon Thursday, March 9.

“North Platte History – Our Humble Beginnings” is presented by Cecelia Lawrence and Sara Aden of the library.

The presentation includes a review of explorers of the area, and the geographic characteristics of Lincoln County.

They discuss Native American tribes in the area; North Platte’s place on the Oregon and Mormon Trails; the need for a military base and the installation of Fort McPherson; and the presentation ends with the railroad coming to the area as well as the first three Lincoln County pioneers and businessmen.

The presentation showcases some of the earliest photographs of North Platte buildings and structures.

Attendance is limited to 70, so call and make seat reservations at 535-8036, extension 3310.

The programs are part of the 150th anniversary of Nebraska’s statehood, as well as the establishment of North Platte and Lincoln County.

On Friday, March 10, a program will be presented on historic houses of North Platte. There are no more seats available, so the program will be repeated at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 30 at the library.
