SUV thief arrested for third time Tell North Platte what you think

Daniel Founds was arrested March 1 for the third time this year, starting Jan. 2, when he drove a stolen SUV into the South Platte River, set it afire, and ran away.

Founds, 30, was caught that day behind the Wal-Mart Supercenter. He was soon convicted of two counts of theft, sentenced to 30 days in jail and ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution to the owner of the SUV. He actually served 23 days before he was released on Jan. 25, according to sheriff’s records.

Six days later, he was arrested for breaking into a home in the 1100 block of So. Tabor. He pried the door open of an acquaintance, causing about $100 in damage. That time, he was sentenced to jail for nine days and released Feb. 9.

According to a police report, on Feb. 20 Founds allegedly forced open the door of the house of another acquaintance in the 1100 block of Linda Court, just off So. Bryan.

Police were not able to find Pounds until March 1, when he agreed to come to the police station and receive a citation / summons for criminal mischief. He was patted down when he arrived, and police found a knife in his front pocket that was longer than 3.5 inches. A knife that length is considered a weapon under Nebraska state law, so he was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and taken back to jail.

This time, bond is set at $2,500.
