The staff and management will retain their jobs under the new owners of the Quality Inn & Suites / Sandhills Convention Center, General Manager Alan Perlinger said Friday.

An ownership group named “North Platte Hospitality” officially took over the hotel on Tuesday, Feb. 28, and the group has hired a management company, JYI Hospitality of Cypress, Texas.

JYI manages numerous hotels in the southern Gulf Coast states, according to its website. The initials JYI stand for Just Your Imagination.

The previous owners were “Premier Hospitality Development LLC,” a group of North Platte investors led by Pat Keenan and Alan Erickson.

The Canteen Bar and Grill will remain open under a long-term agreement. Perlinger said on-site motel employees will remain on the job, including himself.

Perlinger he and the staff are looking forward to significant improvements to the facility that would bring more convention business to the hotel and the city.

JYI Chief Executive Officer Greg Posmantur said the Quality Inn & Suites / Sandhills Convention Center will continue to be a focal point of the community.

JYI Hospitality was founded in early 2003 and its top staff has more than 100 years of combined experience in the hotel business.

“Our progress will depend largely on how many people we can bring through the doors and keep them satisfied with our outstanding service and overall experience,” Posmantur said. “Our job is to make sure they want to come back and tell others to do the same.”

The hotel opened in May 1965 as one of the first convention center hotels in the area. The hotel has gone through renovations over the years and currently features 122 rooms, the full-service restaurant The Canteen Bar and Grill, as well as the convention center.

The hotel has long been the site of major gatherings in North Platte, including civic gatherings, appearances by elected officials, dances, fundraisers and all kinds of conventions.

The Holiday Inn & Suites was built later and the North Platte Inn & Suites opened a year ago.

Another major hotel was added in 2010 -- the Fairfield Inn, and a new Tru Hotel is planned to be built this summer. The latter two hotels are owned by a Pat Keenan-led ownership group.
