Basketball: Lady Irish receive wild card for state tournamentTell North Platte what you think

After over a week of waiting after their sub-district final loss to Cambridge on Feb. 16, the North Platte St. Pat's girls' basketball team received one of the two wild card entries into the state tournament.

The 21-3 Lady Irish will be the No. 5 seed in Class C2 and they will play fourth-seed Ravenna (21-4) in the first round of state on March 2 at 2 p.m. at Lincoln North Star High School.

Going into Saturday, St. Pat's needed No. 1 Crofton and No. 3 Howells-Dodge to win their district finals to qualify for state. Both teams were victorious, allowing the Irish to get the wild card.

The other wild card went to their first round opponent, Ravenna, who lost 54-49 in their district final to Hastings St. Cecilia on Saturday.

Cambridge (20-3), the team that defeated St. Pat's in the sub-district finals, won the C2-6 district with a 50-45 victory over Hemingford. The Trojans are seeded sixth and will play Howells-Dodge in the first round.

This year will mark the fifth appearance in the state girls' basketball tournament for St. Pat's. They qualified for state for four straight years from 2012-15.
