William Frederick Cody was born on Feb. 26, 1846, and during his life he became better known as Buffalo Bill, or Col. William F. Cody.Not only was Cody North Platte’s most famous citizen, he was once the most recognizable celebrity in the world.
The 171st anniversary of his birth is Sunday, Feb. 26.
The Friends of Buffalo Bill will celebrate the occasion with birthday cake at the Platte River Mall from 2-5 p.m. on Feb. 26. Buffalo Bill impersonator Bruce Richman will preside over the celebrations, in character, and will cut the cake with his ceremonial sword.
The public is invited to have cake, help celebrate and keep alive the memory of Buffalo Bill’s time in North Platte.
The Buffalo Bill Corral of Westerners was founded in 1969 and meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln County Historical Museum in North Platte.
The Friends of Buffalo Bill is a group that was founded by the first superintendent of the Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park, George LeRoy.
