A North Platte man was shot in the neck in the early morning hours Sunday in a parking lot in downtown North Platte.

Police Lt. Steve Reeves said at 2:27 a.m., police were called to 121 N. Dewey by a 911 caller, who said her husband, Dustin L. Sauer, shot a 36-year-old man in the neck.

According to the police report, investigators have learned that Sauer, 34, went looking for his wife in the middle of the night and found her in the parking lot, along with a man and another woman.

Sauer and the man fought, and at some point Sauer allegedly shot him in the neck. The wound is thought to be non-life threatening, Reeves said.

Reeves said a large-caliber handgun was found at the scene.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Great Plains Health. Sauer was charged with attempted second-degree homicide and use of a weapon in the commission of a felony, and taken to the Lincoln County jail. Bond was set at $500,000.

Reeves said the case is still under investigation and no further details would be released on Sunday.
