John Ricks, the new director of the Nebraska Tourism Commission, will visit North Platte on Thursday, Feb. 2.

The North Platte / Lincoln County Visitors Bureau will host an open house at 2 p.m. to give the public a chance to meet him and discuss the tourism industry.

Ricks has spent years in the destination marketing business. As an ad agency executive, he worked on state tourism accounts in Wisconsin and Wyoming.

In addition, was Associate Director of the Colorado Tourism Office for five years. Ricks’ first day on the job with Nebraska Tourism was Jan. 9.

In a webinar hosted by the Tourism Commission on Jan. 25, Ricks introduced himself to the industry, reiterating that tourism is a $5 billion industry for Nebraska that generates more than $700 million in taxes annually. He is committed to helping the state grow its tourism, and in renewing confidence in the commission by being a good steward of tax dollars and listening to ideas and concerns from the public.

In addition to his experience in tourism, Ricks is also a world traveler. Born into an Army family, he has traveled the world since his youth, and participates in adventure travel in a wide range of destinations.

The Visitors Bureau is at 101 Halligan Dr.
