Regional middle school honor band to performTell North Platte what you think

Seventh and eighth grade band students from 16 schools who were nominated by band directors will have a special seminar, practice and concert on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the North Platte High Performing Arts Center.

Honored students are from Adams Middle School in North Platte, Arnold, Arthur County, Bertrand, Gothenburg, Hyannis, Kearney Catholic, Loup County, North Platte St. Pat's, Paxton, Sandhills, Sargent, South Platte, Southwest, Stapleton and Sutherland.

Rehearsals begin at 8:30 a.m., culminating with a 3 p.m. concert. There is no admission charge.

Students will work with a highly respected Middle School Band clinician, Jan Wymore former band director of Sunrise Middle School in Kearney.

The experience helps students build rehearsal skills by learning to follow a different director with a different musical perspective, play more challenging repertoire than in their everyday band classes, and perform with some of the most talented middle school musicians from this area.

This experience also allows students from smaller schools to make music in a larger, full band setting.

Students from the schools have been practicing on their own since November, and now they get to put it together for the concert, Adams Middle School band director Becky Brittenham said.
