In a game that will be remembered for the inclement conditions it was played in, North Platte St. Pat's opened the 2013 season on Friday with a 37-0 win over Kimball at Knights of Columbus Field.

On its first drive of the night, St. Pat's took a 3-0 lead on a 21-yard field goal.

The Irish then got great field position for its next possession after their defense stopped A.J. Spicer on fourth down and inches at the Kimball 39 yard line.

On the following play, quarterback Alex Harms threw to Mark Mayfield for a touchdown that was nullified by offsetting penalties. Then Harms fumbled and the Longhorns recovered at its own 47.

But St. Pat's stopped Kimball again and it finally reached the end zone when it got the ball back.

Two minutes into the second quarter, Harms dropped back and hit McClellen for a 57-yard touchdown.

After catching a pass from Harms, McClellen then caught another one from Kimball quarterback Michael Ferguson and he returned the interception to the Longhorn 39.

With the outstanding field position, the Irish grinded it out on the ground and they went up 17-0 after Colin Pieper punched it into the end zone from one yard out with just five minutes left in the first half.

It was still 17-0 at halftime, which was extended 30 minutes longer because of a thunderstorm.

After the delay, St. Pat's added to the lead when Pieper scored on a nine-yard touchdown run.

In the fourth quarter, the game was delayed a second time because of the lightning in the area. The second delay lasted about 45 minutes before the game was finally finished.

The Irish capped the contest with two more touchdowns. McClellen got another touchdown with a little less than seven minutes left and then backup quarterback Bryce Byrn closed the scoring out with a 35 yard touchdown run.
