Starita will be at A to Z Books from 10-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 8 to talk to people and sign books.

His book I Am a Man, tells the story of Chief Standing Bear of the Ponca tribe and Standing Bear's search for justice during the years the west was settled.

Starita writes profoundly of the history of the times -- the Ponca's large settlement at the mouth of the Niobrara River in northeast Nebraska, where the large tribe of farmers were discovered by explorers, trappers and traders. The story covers Thomas Jefferson, the Lewis and Clark expedition and developments that reduced the Ponca to a homeless people, as well as Standing Bear's successful battle for a basic degree of justice.

I Am a Man was recommended reading throughout Nebraska in 2012 in the "One book, One Nebraska" program.

Starita has been an award-winning journalist and author during his career. He twice reached the finals of Pulitzer Prize selections, once for his news work and once for his books.

Also at 10 a.m., Barb Eymann Mohrman and artist Wava Best will be at the North Platte Public Library for a book signing and presentation. Mohrmann, a retired North Platt teacher, is the author of Four Blue Stars in the Window, and she recently wrote a book about the Dust Bowl years for grades 4-8 called The Dust Covered Days of Dorrie Archer. Best, an award-winning Nebraska artist, sketched the illustrations for Mohrmann's latest book.

At 2:30 p.m., all three of them -- Starita, Mohrmann and Best -- will be at the North Platte Historical Museum to talk about their work and sign copies. Starita will speak at 3:30 p.m.

There is no charge to attend any of these presentations.
