More than 3/4 inch of rain fell Wednesday at the North Platte Regional Airport, bringing the total precipitation for the year to about 85 percent of normal.
Relatively small but steady rains are helping alleviate the drastic effects of the extreme 2012 drought that killed trees, fostered a record number of wildfires and depleted soil moisture.
Little rain fell in April, but the wet weather has been frequent in May.
During May, 3.12 inches of rain fell at the National Weather Service measuring station at the airport.
The total precipitation this year is 6.16 inches -- 85.7% of the average 7.19 inches by this time each year, according to records have been kept for a century.
