One year after a terrifying tornado ripped through houses west of North Platte and did more than $2 million in damages, tornado hunters will be in town for two days to talk about storm chasing.

Through grants from the National Science Foundation and the North Platte Public Schools Foundation, North Platte is part of the Tornado Alley Education and Outreach tour.

Tornado Alley is a 3D IMAX film created by Sean Casey, star of the Discovery Channel’s Storm Chasers series.

Two scientists from the series’ VORTEX2 research team -- Dr. Karen Kosiba and DOW technician Ab Pfieffer from the Center for Severe Weather Research in Boulder -- will speak and the film Tornado Alley will be shown in 3D, followed by questions and answers.

Students will also get the chance to tour the Doppler on Wheels (DOW) storm chasing vehicle. The shows will be hosted by Scott Fauteux.
