Christopher Russell, 19, of North Platte, was charged March 1 with first-degree sexual assault of a teenage girl. The girl’s mother reported to police that Russell was involved in a sexual relationship with her underage daughter, age 14. Russell was in jail on charges related to shoplifting when investigators looked into the allegation. When the investigation was finished, Russell was charged with first-degree sexual assault. He was released on bond before then, and was picked up again and put in jail. His bond on the sex assault charge is set at $250,000. The young girl said the relationship was consensual, but regardless, Nebraska law makes it illegal for anyone over age 19 to have sex with anyone under 16.
