North Platte officials declared a snow emergency at 6 p.m. Wednesday as light snow started to fall, advising residents to move cars off main streets. A storm moved into the area that had dumped seven inches by Thursday afternoon. A city snow emergency declaration dictates that all vehicles and trailers parked on a snow emergency route, as marked by small red, white and blue signs, must be removed from the street so snow plows can keep main routes open no matter how bad it gets. Cars that are parked on the emergency routes can be ticketed and towed away, city officials said in the declaration. Officers issued 46 parking tickets to vehicles that violated the ban on parking along the city's emergency snow routes, Police Information Officer Rodney Brown said.
