The fourth time was a charm for North Platte St. Pat's girls team, as they finally defeated Hershey. St. Pat's only lost three games this season. Two of the losses were to Hershey.
Hershey only lost three games too -- one of them was to the Irish.
It was only fitting that the two teams went to not one, but two overtimes on Thursday night.
But in a game decided by free throws, St. Pat's outshot Hershey from the line to win the C2-11 subdistrict, 48-43.
The Lady Irish (21-3) will take on Bridgeport in the district finals next week, while Hershey (20-4) will hope to get into the state tournament via the wild card.
Going into Thursday, the Hershey Lady Panthers were ranked third in the Class C2 powerpoint standings. Crofton and Hastings St. Cecilia, the two teams in front of Hershey, both won their respective subdistricts on Thursday.
Both teams battled throughout regulation. Hershey led as much as six in the first half before St. Pat's answered back quickly.
