The trucks were traveling together to the transfer station, headed south, one behind the other, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

When the lead truck came over a hill near Yucca Road, driver Richard Karre, 52, saw a cow loose on the road and quickly slowed down. Adam Anderson, 32, driving the second truck, didn’t see Karre slow down and ran into the back of his truck.

Anderson said he was also watching the cow.

Investigators said both trucks were extensively damaged.

A witness said the trucks were not speeding or following too closely. Both drivers received medical treatment but the injuries appeared to be minor, the spokesman said.
