Free outdoor movies will be shown this summer in North Platte’s city parks. “Everyone from Grandma and Grandpa to a toddler can go out for an evening of economical entertainment, and have an enjoyable time at Movies in the Park.” says Ginger Ady of the North Platte/Lincoln County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Three movies are scheduled, one each month, beginning June 8. There is not admission charge. A 16-feet x 17-feet inflatable movie screen has been purchased, along with a projection and sound system. The big screen will give the feel of the old-time drive-in theater, organizers say. The equipment was purchased by the North Platte/Lincoln County Convention and Visitors Bureau along with the North Platte Recreation Center and Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation. The first movie, Tangled, will be shown on Friday, June 8. All movies start at dusk. Dates, locations, and movies:
• Friday, June 8 – Tangled One of the most sophisticated animated movies ever made. A Disney production. Cody Park Softball fields Sponsored by Equitable Bank
• Friday, July 13 – Secondhand Lion A shy, young boy is sent by his irresponsible mother to spend the summer with his wealthy, eccentric uncles in Texas. Cody Park by Cody Pool Sponsored by Farm Bureau Financial Services, Jay Engel & Bob Rouch
• Friday, Aug 10 – Despicable Me A supervillan is befuddled by three girls. Animated 3D comedy. Memorial Park Sponsored by Farm Bureau Financial Services, Jay Engel & Bob Rouch
