Two North Platte women were arrested Sunday for an alleged robbery of an elderly man in Cody Park.

Diane Perez, 40, and Stephanie Lopez, 24, are accused of robbing an 84-year-old man of his wallet and cell phone.

The alleged victim told police he came to North Platte from his home in Merna to pick up some medication. While in town, he received a phone call from a woman who said Perez was at the caller’s home and wanted to see him, according to a North Platte Police Department spokesperson.

The alleged victim told police he’d “seen (Perez) four times in the last six weeks,” the spokesperson said. However, the man did not describe the nature of their relationship and when asked how he initially met her, he responded that he didn’t remember, the spokesperson said.

On Sunday afternoon the alleged victim met up with Perez and Lopez, police said, and started driving around town. They bought some beer and wound up at Cody Park, according to the spokesperson. It was there that the pair of women attacked the man, knocked his glasses off, and stole his wallet and cell phone, police said.

At approximately 3:20 p.m., the man contacted police to report the incident. He was able to identify Perez by name but did not know the other woman’s name. A few hours later police located the two women and took them to the police station to interrogate them, the spokesperson said.

“Their stories were all over the place. One of them said one thing, the other said something else entirely,” the spokesperson reported. “Then their stories changed. Neither one was truthful at all.”

Eventually, Lopez helped locate the alleged victim’s cell phone, which the pair reportedly discarded, the spokesperson said. The wallet netted the pair $6 to split, according to police.

Perez and Lopez face felony robbery charges because they used allegedly used force to take the man’s phone and wallet. Both women are held on $25,000 bond.
