One day after initially making the New York Jets' 53-man final roster, Danny Woodhead was waived by the team Sunday. The move was triggered when the Jets acquired two backfield players from other teams -- quarterback Kevin O'Connell from the Detroit Lions (for an undisclosed draft pick) and fullback Jason Davis, who was waived by the Bears. The acquisition of Davis gives the Jets two fullbacks to go with three tailbacks, after Woodhead was waived. O'Connell is the fourth Jet quarterback. Woodhead had an excellent preseason, leading Jets' running backs in total rushing yards with 226. He won the cheers of fans and teammates. He is consistently referred to as a "fan favorite" by the newsmedia. His photo has appeared frequently in national news reports and new youtube videos are online, portraying his accomplishments. Woodhead is expected to be picked up by another team, sports writer Roderick Boone of Newsday predicted Monday. If another team doesn't claim Woodhead then the Jets may choose to add him to their practice squad.
