The North Platte High School Marching Band
|
Nearly 130 floats paraded through North Platte Saturday in the 41st annual Nebraskaland Days parade. The weather cooperated with a light breeze and overcast skies. As always, cowgirls, cowboys, horses and wagons were plentiful. Grand Marshall Mardee Swanson helped lead the two-hour parade, along with the North Platte Police, Boy Scout Troop 293 and Gov. Dave Heineman. Swanson was honored Thursday with the Dale Studley award for her years of service to Nebraskaland Days, the Velvet Spurs all-women riding club and the Miss Rodeo Nebraska pageant, which is held each summer in North Platte. Harvest Christian Church had a popular float featuring a live rock band and members handing out ice-cold bottles of water from big tanks of ice on their flatbed. "Shermie at the piano" also provided live music on the Chautauqua 2010/Original Town float. Among the marching bands were the Michael Collins Pipe and Drum Irish Band of Denver, North Platte High School and St. Pat’s High School. St. Pat’s marched for the third straight year. For the seventh year, the Bulletin staff handed out thousands of free copies of a special parade edition to the crowd.
