Nebraska public radio offers jazz, talkTell North Platte what you think

NET radio has launched a program service called HD-2, which includes programs not heard on NET radio's main service.

NebraskaLand National BankFREE Mobile Banking NOW AVAILABLE!

The new format includes NPR news and talk programs throughout the day and jazz at night.

NET radio’s main service will be unchanged, with NPR news and classical music.

HD Radio is the brand name for a method of digital radio transmission that allows stations to broadcast digital audio, multiple program streams and traditional FM, all on the same frequency. HD-2 is currently being broadcast only on the KUCV/Lincoln transmitter but is available to anyone with an Internet connection at netNebraska.org/radio. Lincoln-area listeners need an HD Radio to hear it over-the-air.

Go to the NET Radio Web site to listen online or for more information about HD Radio.

NET Radio was able to add the new service by taking advantage of grants intended to encourage stations to use the digital technology, according to NET Radio Network Manager Nancy Finken.

"We had some transmitters that needed to be replaced anyway, so the grant allowed us to upgrade the KUCV/Lincoln transmitter to one that allows transmission of both digital and analog signals," Finken said. "That means we can provide a more diverse program schedule, although it's limited to listeners who go online or who have an HD radio and live in the broadcast area."

Grants will replace and upgrade the aging transmitters at KHNE/Hastings and at KLNE/Lexington. Work on replacing those transmitters is tentatively scheduled for 2009-2010.

Grants are also being sought to for a transmitter at KPNE/North Platte. The grants require a cash match, reduce our replacement costs.
