Marble size hail hit North Platte at 1:40 p.m. Friday as a severe blizzard approached.

The hail lasted 3-4 minutes, then decreased to pea size. The hail was soft, but accumulated to a two-inch depth or so on the north side of fences and curbs.

Light rain began to fall about 20 minutes later.

Strange weather was also reported near Thedford, 60 miles north of North Platte. Marble size hail fell there around 3 a.m., a resident reported, and heavy snow began falling around 1 p.m.  accompanied by the roll of thunder, the resident said.

There is a 90% chance of snow later Friday and overnight in the North Platte area, with accumulations of 6-12 inches before the storm passes through on Saturday, the National Weather Service in North Platte said.
