The music department at North Platte Community College presented a faculty recital on Tuesday evening, featuring teachers and instructors.

“This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time,” said Pam Koch, music department chair. “I don’t think people realize how much talent our faculty has.”

The lineup included Virgil French on clarinet; Karen Lukas on piano and violin; Sue McKain on piano; Melissa Mitchell singing and Kristin Simpson in a violin and piano duet with Koch.

The performers were either faculty or adjunct faculty at NPCC.

“We decided the students needed to see us perform,” Koch said. “We make them perform. Our music education students are required to attend, but I would encourage all students, staff and faculty at NPCC, as well as community members, to come watch and see what we can do.”

Most of the songs were classical in nature, but there were some pop numbers too. Classical selections included: Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Prelude in C-sharp minor,” “Capriccio” by Johannes Brahms and “Romanza Andaluza” by Pablo de Sarasate.
