The North Platte Lady Bulldogs went 1-1 in an abbreviated East-West Shootout on Thursday and Friday.
NPHS (9-12) suffered a narrow 56-50 lost to Scottsbluff on Thursday, then rebounded with a 47-31 win over Gering on Friday.
In the first game against Scottsbluff (8-14), the Lady Dawgs led 15-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Bearcats fought back in the second quarter to lead 28-27 at halftime.
Scottsbluff took control in the second half and led 46-35 at the end of the third quarter. They held on to avenge an previous loss to the Bulldogs in the GNAC tournament on Dec. 30.
Kaitlyn Hansen led North Platte’s offense with 23 points.
Audrey Krentz and Yarra Garcia each had 17 for the Bearcats.
On the following night, the Lady Bulldogs wasted no time in asserting themselves against Gering (11-12). NPHS led 16-2 at the end of the first quarter and 31-5 at halftime.
Gering had a strong third quarter, outscoring North Platte 11-4, before the Lady Dawgs finished them off in the fourth.
North Platte was led by Gracie Haneborg with 16 points.
The East-West Shootout is normally played over three straight days, with NPHS taking on the panhandle trio of Scottsbluff, Gering and Alliance.
But North Platte hosted the district wrestling meet on Saturday, so the game with Alliance was moved up to Jan. 9, where Alliance came away with the 51-42 victory.
