North Platte’s Art Study League has selected two students, one from North Platte High and one from North Platte’s St. Patrick’s, as the honor students in music this year.
This year will be the second year the league has given student awards for music.
A reception will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 12 at the Prairie Arts Center. Jason Ezell and Shane Klasna will perform during the reception.
Jason Ezell is the son of Melissa Clark and a senior at North Platte High School. While in high school, he has participated in choir, jazz choir, the Blue and Gold Singers, and the marching band. He participated in musicals during his junior and senior years.
Jason has been recognized for superior musical talent by being selected for the All-State and UNK honor choirs in his junior and senior years, as well as the Wesleyan Honor Choir this year.
He has a varsity choral letter/medal for the past two years and competed at district contest the last three years.
Academically, Jason has been on the 4.0 Honor Roll and received academic letters throughout high school, as well as being selected for the National Honor Society.
He has participated in the Key Club and Environmental Club. He participates in bowling and has received a bowling scholarship. Jason is active in many community and volunteer activities, including trash walks, youth bowling, peer tutor and the Red Cross Blood Drive.
Shane Klasna is the honor student in music from St. Pat’s High School. He is the son of Ronna and Roger Klasna.
Shane has participated in the varsity band, elite jazz band and pep band throughout high school. Shane has been a successful musician for many years, having received the conductor’s award for band in eighth grade. He has also participated in choir throughout high school. He is currently his class treasurer and he is on the A/B Honor Roll.
He has participated in SAINTS the last three years. Shane also participates in athletics and has lettered in cross country all four years of high school. He is an Eagle Scout and has volunteered to assist others with their Eagle Scout projects.
He is active in many other volunteer activities including the Lincoln Connection, many 5K and 10K events, altar boy and the Salvation Army. Shane has several career interests and is still considering his post-secondary education options.
